About the Artist

Deirdre Friebely is a multi faceted creator based in Southern Maine. In recent years, she has focused her love of design and composition on paintings created solely with black paint, exploring themes of family, joy, fear, and humor to highlight belonging, nature, and the small moments that make us human.

Her work is rooted in childhood memories of endless play in the woods, barns, and fields of her family’s farm in northwest New Jersey. Today, she continues to draw inspiration from the lively mayhem of her own home as a mother of two and wife to a merchant mariner.

Over the years, Deirdre’s creativity has taken many forms. She earned her BFA in Graphic Design from Maine College of Art, worked as a freelance designer, sold paintings and drawings through retail and wholesale venues, and owned a boutique gallery in York, Maine.

She now lives in South Berwick in an old house that is in serious need of a paint job, where she can often be found building, renovating, or gardening when not in the studio.
