About the Artist

Hi, I'm Deirdre.

I make things. Paintings, mostly. Though over the years it's also been graphic design, a boutique gallery in York, Maine, freelance work, and whatever I can build or renovate before someone before I realize I should probably stop and go make dinner.

I grew up on a farm in northwest New Jersey with a lot of woods, barns, fields, and time to wander and daydream. I think about that a lot when I'm working. The unhurried kind of looking at things. The noticing.

These days I live with my husband and two kids in South Berwick, Maine in an old house that genuinely needs a paint job (the irony is not lost on me). I have a small studio where I go to ponder the stuff that's easy to walk right past when things get busy. Some of it turns into flowers. Some of it turns into dogs, kids playing or friendly reminders of home. Occasionally someone is running from something and I don't ask too many questions.

That's more or less what the work is about. Paying attention to the small, easy-to-miss stuff. The beautiful and the chaotic, sometimes in the same piece.

I have a BFA in Graphic Design from Maine College of Art, which mostly means I have very strong opinions about fonts and absolutely no ability to commit to one. Make of that what you will.
